Three Texas Tech players remain on the active roster while seeking temporary injunctions in separate eligibility cases as the team starts preparing for the 2026-27 season. Coach Grant McCasland said the roster was assembled around athleticism, competitiveness and experience, along with a shared commitment to winning and to one another.
Donovan Atwell returns after making 45.8% of his 3-point attempts on a career-best 8.4 tries per game last season. He also received honorable mention All-Big 12 recognition. Darrion Williams is back after playing at NC State in 2025-26, following two seasons with Texas Tech and a role on the 2024-25 team that reached the Elite Eight.
McCasland said Williams’ return took an uncommon path and that Williams eventually asked if the coach would keep a scholarship available.
Williams is one of 31 players in a case that produced a temporary injunction allowing a fifth year of eligibility. Atwell and Jamichael Stillwell are pursuing another season in separate cases. McCasland said Texas Tech will proceed with the players permitted to compete and believes the roster can absorb changes. The Red Raiders are scheduled to begin the season Nov. 2 at United Supermarkets Arena.
