Rangers stumble in Sacramento

The Texas Rangers fell 5-2 to the host Sacramento Athletics on Sunday, August 16, at Sutter Health Park. The contest featured four total home runs, with the Athletics accounting for three of them. The final score extended the Athletics' record to 49-75, while the Rangers dropped to 61-64. Attendance for the game stood at 7,343.

Early offensive burst

The scoring began in the second inning when the Rangers struck first. Cody Bradford homered to right center field, traveling 396 feet, to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. The Athletics responded immediately in the bottom of the second.

Austin Butler connected on a two-run home run to right field, covering 394 feet, which brought in White and tied the game at 2-2. The balance of the early innings saw a fielder's choice in the third inning that scored Langford, keeping the game level before the break.

Late-game surge

The momentum shifted decisively in the seventh inning. The Athletics' offense re-ignited when Gelof hit a two-run home run to right center field, carrying the ball 403 feet and scoring Bolte. That blast gave Sacramento a 4-2 lead.

In the eighth inning, White added to the margin with a solo home run to center field, traveling 413 feet, to seal the 5-2 victory for the home team.

Pitching performances

Cody Bradford started for the Rangers, pitching 4.0 innings while allowing eight hits and two earned runs. He also issued one walk and struck out four batters. Relievers Chase Silseth, Tyler Alexander, Jakob Junis, Peyton Gray, and Cole Winn handled the remaining frames.

Jakob Junis took the loss, recording 1.0 inning, two hits, and two earned runs. For the Athletics, Jacob Lopez pitched 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs while striking out six. Luis Medina earned the win with 1.0 scoreless inning, striking out two.

Elvis Alvarado, Drew Rom, and Hogan Harris provided the final outs, with Harris recording the save.
