CSISD names eight seniors 2027 National Merit Semifinalists

College Station ISD has named eight seniors as 2027 National Merit Semifinalists, the district said in a Sept. 21 announcement, recognizing students from A&M Consolidated High School and College Station High School who qualified through the 2025 PSAT/NMSQT.

The district said the recognition lets the students continue in the competition for about 6,700 National Merit scholarships worth nearly $24 million. Semifinalists represent less than 1% of U.S. high school seniors and include the highest-scoring entrants in each state, CSISD said.

The local Semifinalists

A&M Consolidated High School seniors Patrick Li, Michael Wu, Julian Gill, Irvin Wang, Zoe Caverlee and Nina Alvarado were named Semifinalists, according to the district. College Station High School seniors Jameson Dent and Richard Petrov also made the list.

CSISD said more than 1.2 million high school juniors nationwide entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2025 PSAT/NMSQT.

Path to Finalist standing

To advance as Finalists, Semifinalists must complete a detailed application, keep a strong academic record, receive a school official’s recommendation, submit an essay and earn SAT or ACT scores that confirm their PSAT/NMSQT performance, the district said. More than 15,000 of the more than 16,000 Semifinalists are expected to reach Finalist standing.

Qualifying students will learn their final designation in February, with National Merit Scholarship winners announced beginning in April and concluding in July, CSISD said.
