College Station ISD will send four full cross country teams to the UIL state championships next month, the first time both of the district's high schools have qualified their boys and girls squads in the same season, KBTX reported Tuesday.

A&M Consolidated's girls led the way at the Class 5A regional meet, winning the team title with 57 points and an average time of 18:51.

The other three teams earned their spots by finishing in the top places:

  • College Station boys: second with 69 points and an average time of 16:08, behind Austin LASA, which scored 52.
  • College Station girls: third with 162 points, averaging 20:06.
  • A&M Consolidated boys: fourth with 193 points, averaging 16:40.

The result builds on a strong district meet earlier this month. CSISD hosted the District 17-5A championships on Oct. 15 on the new home course at its Career and Technical Education Center, where the Consol girls and the College Station boys both took team titles, according to KBTX.

When and where state is

The UIL state cross country meet is at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. Classes 2A, 4A and 6A run Friday, Nov. 6, and Classes 1A, 3A and 5A, including both CSISD schools, race Saturday, Nov. 7, KBTX reported.

Bryan High also had two runners qualify for state in Class 6A, and both set school records in their races, according to the station.

The trip adds to a busy fall for the district's two high schools. Both marching bands advanced from their UIL region contest this month, and A&M Consolidated and College Station met in the 5A Region III team tennis final on Oct. 16, a matchup that guaranteed CSISD a place at the state tennis tournament.
