Brazos Valley residents, both women and men, can get a screening mammogram at no cost one Friday a month through a program run by Pink Alliance, a local breast cancer nonprofit. On the program's second-Friday schedule, October's session would fall on Oct. 9; appointments are booked by phone.

How the program works

Pink Alliance's "Think Pink" mammogram days run 8 a.m. to noon on the second Friday of each month. Screenings are done in College Station at Brazos Valley Women's Center, which is in Suite 230 of the West Building at 1602 Rock Prairie Road. The nonprofit pays for the screenings in partnership with the center.

According to Pink Alliance, the free screenings are open to people living in any of the seven Brazos Valley counties whether they have insurance, are underinsured or have none, and regardless of ability to pay. Appointments are made by phone at 979-776-5602.

The program began in November 2025, so next month will mark its first anniversary, KBTX reported. On its website, Pink Alliance also says it covers follow-up ultrasounds and biopsies for patients who cannot afford them when a screening finds something that needs a closer look.

Awareness month events

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Pink Alliance's annual Surviving & Thriving luncheon, now in its 23rd year, is scheduled for Oct. 6 and has sold out, according to KBTX. Over those years the event has brought in more than $1.4 million to support breast cancer care in the area, the station said.

The nonprofit is also running a raffle and taking donations for people who could not get luncheon seats, KBTX reported; a $125 gift covers one screening mammogram.
