Texas A&M men’s golf finished second at the Fighting Irish Classic on Monday, Oct. 5, missing the team title by one stroke.

The Aggies shot an even-par 280 in the final round at Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Indiana, and finished the 54-hole event at 2-over 842. California won at 841, while host Notre Dame finished third at 843.

A&M began the day in a three-way tie for second, two strokes behind Cal. Its closing round gained one shot on the Bears and broke the tie with Notre Dame and Illinois, but did not erase the entire deficit.

The result gives the College Station program a runner-up finish from a tightly packed leaderboard. The Aggies’ three team rounds were 280, 282 and 280.

A&M next competes Oct. 19-20 at the Abilene Christian Intercollegiate at Halbert National Golf Course in Granbury.
