Brazos County passed 31,000 early and mail ballots over the weekend, with the final five days of early voting still ahead.
County election officials counted 31,443 voters through Sunday, Oct. 25, KBTX reported. That is a little over 21% of the 147,051 people registered in the county this year. Through Thursday, Oct. 22, the count had stood at 19,981.
Friday, Oct. 23, was the heaviest day so far, the station said, with 5,026 in-person voters plus 79 mail ballots handled that day.
How this year compares
The pace remains well above the last midterm. KBTX put this year's early turnout at nearly 80% higher than 2022 at the same point, while it trails the 2024 presidential election by about 15%.
Registration has also grown. The county's 147,051 registered voters is nearly 15,000 more than in 2024 and over 20,000 more than in 2022, according to the county figures KBTX cited.
Statewide, upward of 4.1 million Texans had voted out of about 19 million on the rolls, based on unofficial numbers from the Texas secretary of state's office, and counties reported 202,005 mail ballots received as of Oct. 25.
