Halloween week brings a run of free and low-cost events across Bryan and College Station, many of them hosted by public libraries, the cities and local nonprofits. Here is what is on the calendar from Tuesday through Saturday, based on a listing compiled by KBTX.

Tuesday, Oct. 27

  • Storytimes at Larry J. Ringer Library, College Station. A Halloween creative movement storytime at 10 a.m. pairs spooky books with music and dancing for young children, and costumes are welcome. An evening children's storytime follows at 6 p.m. for families who want a gentle, not-scary option.
  • Legends Event Center Trunk or Treat, 2533 Midtown Park Blvd., Bryan, 6 to 8:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all ages, giving families an early chance to try out costumes and collect candy.

Wednesday, Oct. 28

  • Halloween on 19. The City of College Station's government channel starts a four-day marathon of older horror films, among them Nosferatu, The Phantom of the Opera and The Last Man on Earth. Watch on Optimum Channel 19 or online at cstx.gov/cstv19.
  • Casper at The Palace Theater, 105 S. Main St., Bryan, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. The open-air downtown venue shows the family film outdoors. Seats are first come, first served, and food and drinks will be for sale.

Friday, Oct. 30

  • Aggieland Humane Society Trunk or Treat, 5359 Leonard Road, 5 to 7 p.m. Admission is free, and visitors can meet adoptable animals. The shelter is asking guests to bring bags of pet food for its Community Pet Food Pantry.

Saturday, Oct. 31

  • Clara B. Mounce Library Spooky Carnival, 201 E. 26th St., Bryan, 2 to 3:30 p.m. This one is built for children 5 and younger, offering games, music and prizes, and kids can come in costume.
  • Trunk or Treat So Kids Can Eat, 3450 Campus Drive, Bryan. Now in its eighth year, the event raises food for the Brazos Valley Food Bank. Entry costs five canned goods per person. Plans include trunk-or-treating, inflatables, face painting, a photo booth, food vendors and a showing of Hotel Transylvania. KBTX's listing did not give a start time, so check with organizers before heading out.

Destination Bryan and the City of College Station post more event details on their websites.
