Governor Greg Abbott announced the distribution of $8,367,000 in Funds for Veterans’ Assistance (FVA) grants to 35 organizations in Central Texas. This funding, part of the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC) Grants Across Texas Tour, is expected to benefit more than 4,790 veterans in the region.
Among the recipients, the Brazos Valley organization “Housing for Texas Heroes” received $56,000. Governor Abbott emphasized the importance of supporting veterans, stating, "Our veterans represent the strength and resilience of our great land, and every veteran deserves the opportunity to build a fulfilling life after service."
TVC Deputy Executive Director Shawn Deabay, an Army veteran, expressed gratitude for the organizations dedicated to assisting Texas veterans and their families. He noted that these grants enhance the efforts of community organizations that provide essential services.
The grants will fund a variety of services, including: - A Sanctuary for Military Families: $211,000 for non-clinical mental health support. - Austin Dog Alliance: $350,000 for a service dog program. - Austin Habitat for Humanity: $100,000 for housing initiatives. - Baylor Research Institute: $400,000 for clinical counseling and $200,000 for family and child support services. - Bell County: $400,000 for financial assistance and $140,000 for a veterans treatment court. - Blanco River Regional Recovery Team: $198,000 for financial assistance. - Bluebonnet Trails Community MHMR Center: $195,000 for mental health and financial assistance. - Cove House Emergency Homeless Shelter: $250,000 for housing.
