A new art exhibit titled CPR has opened at The Arts Center of Brazos Valley in College Station. Created by artist Jeremy Thompson, who is also known as Beast Syndicate, the exhibit showcases 26 mixed media panels, each representing a letter of the alphabet.
CPR stands for Cut, Paste, Repeat, which Thompson describes as his creative process. He explained that the title also reflects the life-saving technique of cardiopulmonary resuscitation. The concept for the exhibit originated while he was working on a zine with an A to Z theme, where he focused on each letter individually.
Thompson's work embraces a do-it-yourself aesthetic, drawing inspiration from punk culture, skateboarding graphics, and zine-making. He noted that his approach is accessible, as he lacks formal art training and does not identify as an illustrator or painter. “It’s really accessible,” he stated, emphasizing the fun and repurposing aspects of his art.
He likened his creative process to that of a DJ mixing music, but with visual elements from pop culture. Thompson expressed his hope that the exhibit will encourage visitors to explore their own creativity, regardless of their background in art. “You don’t need formal training to do it,” he remarked.
