The Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management at Texas A&M University will host the Football Analytics Symposium (FAST) on November 13 at the Student Recreation Center. This event marks the first symposium of its kind in Texas, focusing on how data analytics influences football, business, and human performance.
The one-day program features presentations and panel discussions regarding player-tracking technology, decision-making processes, revenue generation, fan engagement, and athletic performance science. Speakers and panelists include representatives from the National Football League, ESPN, the Houston Texans, Washington Commanders, Zebra Technologies, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Wisconsin, Texas Christian University, and the University of Florida.
Dr. Jonathan A. Jensen, an associate professor of sport management and event organizer, noted that while many analytics conferences exist, this event is distinct due to its specific focus on football and its inclusive approach for students interested in data science from various perspectives, including on-field analysis, sport business, and human performance.
Jensen leads the Collaborative for Sport Data Science (CSDS), an interdisciplinary coalition of scholars focused on sport data. The symposium is designed to provide students with opportunities to learn directly from professional and academic experts while exploring careers in sport management, data science, technology, and human performance.
Students will also have the chance to present their research during a poster fair, with top presenters receiving cash prizes.
