Baylor University’s football team is facing a setback as wide receiver Taz Williams Jr. has sustained a broken collarbone. Head coach Dave Aranda announced that Williams will require surgery and is anticipated to be sidelined for several weeks. This injury opens opportunities for other receivers to step up as the season nears.
Ashton Jones, a six-foot-four redshirt freshman, is poised to take on a larger role in Williams' absence. Known for his significant vertical threat, Jones will have a chance to demonstrate his skills while contributing to the team's deep passing strategy.
Jadon Porter is another player expected to rise to the occasion. Having recorded nine receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown last season, Porter brings valuable experience and familiarity with the team’s offense, which will be crucial for sustaining the effectiveness of the passing game.
Additionally, true freshman London Smith may also get the opportunity to showcase his athleticism and speed. While his lack of experience presents challenges, the coaching staff will assess his performance during camp to evaluate his readiness for the upcoming season.
As the team adapts to Williams' injury, updates on his recovery and the performances of the other receivers will be forthcoming.
