Texas Christian University has reinstated the Fort Worth Star-Telegram's media credentials as of September 4, following a suspension that lasted nearly two weeks. This suspension occurred after the newspaper reported on an incident in the locker room involving Jacob Fields and Dozie Noble Ezukanma, who suffered a brain bleed, leading to Fields being charged with aggravated assault.
Despite the revocation, the Star-Telegram continued its coverage of the incident. TCU Athletics released a statement emphasizing its commitment to progress and recognizing the importance of the newspaper as an independent news outlet within the community.
The Horned Frogs started their season with a loss against North Carolina, finishing 15-10 in a game played in Ireland. They are set to compete against Grambling State on September 12. The credential revocation was reportedly associated with threats made against Ezukanma, although the Star-Telegram clarified that it did not disclose his identity following the incident.
With the credentials restored, the Star-Telegram will regain full access to media areas during TCU games.
