The Dallas Cowboys have completed a trade that will send offensive tackle Nate Thomas to the Houston Texans, receiving a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft in return.
At 25 years old, Thomas was drafted by the Cowboys in the seventh round of the 2024 draft after a collegiate career at Louisiana. He spent his rookie year on injured reserve but played in all 17 games during the 2025 season, starting four. While he mainly played left tackle, he has also served as a swing tackle throughout his time with the team.
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer had previously indicated that Thomas would compete with teammate Tyler Guyton for the starting left tackle spot. However, as training camp progressed, Schottenheimer noted that Guyton would continue with the first-team offense, citing a need for more consistent performance from Thomas.
To strengthen their offensive line, the Cowboys have also added Broderick Jones from the Pittsburgh Steelers, who is capable of playing both left and right tackle. As the deadline for finalizing NFL rosters approaches, the Cowboys' offensive tackle group now features Tyler Guyton, Terence Steele, Broderick Jones, and fourth-round draft pick Drew Shelton.
