Coach Brian Schottenheimer acknowledged the tough nature of these decisions, highlighting the potential both Blue and Mafah had shown. He praised Malik Davis for his consistent performance, suggesting that Blue and Mafah may seek advice from Davis as they face their current circumstances.
In an effort to enhance their lineup, the Cowboys have acquired running back Emari Demercado off waivers from Kansas City. Schottenheimer noted Demercado's versatility and his previous connection with offensive coordinator Klayton Adams as key reasons for this acquisition.
Regarding the chance of Blue or Mafah returning to the practice squad, Schottenheimer was vague, indicating that there were no assurances for either player. The Cowboys currently have 13 players on their practice squad, including running back Israel Abanikanda.
An NFL team can have a maximum of 16 players on the practice squad, and the Cowboys have room for one extra player due to the International Player Pathway program, which includes defensive tackle Dayo Odeleye.
