Head coach Brian Schottenheimer expressed his excitement about Milton's return, saying he is "elated" to have him back, as reported by Jon Machota of The Athletic.
Milton was selected in the sixth round by the New England Patriots in 2024 and demonstrated his strong arm during the preseason. He appeared in one regular-season game with the Patriots, where he showcased his potential. In April 2025, he was traded to the Cowboys, participating in four games without making a start, which provided him with valuable experience as a young quarterback.
Although he was waived at the end of August, Milton chose to return to the Cowboys' practice squad, showing his contentment with the team's direction. Schottenheimer and the coaching staff are optimistic about Milton's decision, believing it will aid in his development.
The Cowboys are scheduled to begin their 2026 season on September 13, facing off against the New York Giants, with quarterback Jaxson Dart leading the team.
