Boutte had sought a trade during the offseason, expressing a wish for a more significant role on the team. The arrival of new players Romeo Doubs and A.J. Brown notably changed his standing on the Patriots. Doubs signed a four-year deal worth $68 million, while Brown was brought in through a trade involving first- and fifth-round draft picks.
These changes resulted in Boutte being positioned as the fourth wide receiver during training camp, behind Doubs, Brown, and DeMario Douglas.
