The New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans. In return, the Patriots acquired Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick for 2028.
At 24 years old, Boutte faced stiff competition in New England's receiving lineup, especially after the team added AJ Brown and Romeo Doubs. Other players on the roster included DeMario Douglas, Mack Hollins, Kyle Williams, and Efton Chism, which limited Boutte's chances to play.
Head coach Mike Vrabel stated that this trade would provide Boutte with better opportunities to contribute in Houston, rather than remaining inactive on the Patriots' roster. He acknowledged the depth at the wide receiver position, saying it was likely the best decision for everyone involved.
Due to a lack of special teams involvement, Boutte would have likely not seen game action unless other players were injured. Last season, he participated in 14 games, achieving 33 catches for 551 yards and a career-high of six touchdowns. Vrabel noted the difficulty of the decision, praising Boutte's positive demeanor and development, and expressed gratitude for his contributions.
In Houston, Boutte is expected to take on a backup role behind established starters Nico Collins, Xavier Hutchinson, and Jaylin Noel.
