TCU is on the hunt for a new starting quarterback after Josh Hoover's surprising transfer to Indiana, the current national champions. Hoover's exit follows a season in which TCU recorded an 8-4 mark, raising expectations for a strong push towards the Big 12 championship and potential NFL draft opportunities.
Before Hoover's announcement, the personnel team at TCU had already begun identifying quarterback prospects, not foreseeing his departure. General manager Ryan Dorchester remarked that Hoover was considered a vital player for the upcoming season, with no indications he would leave Fort Worth. However, they had started scouting quarterbacks as a backup plan in case he chose to enter the NFL draft.
The Horned Frogs are specifically seeking an upperclassman with one year of eligibility left, as they view high school signee Adam Schobel as their long-term solution at quarterback. Following Hoover's transfer confirmation, TCU promptly signed Jaden Craig, a former zero-star recruit who had performed well at Harvard for two seasons.
Dorchester first became aware of Craig while reviewing footage of a former Harvard receiver. He described Craig as decisive and efficient, possessing a strong arm. Although Hoover had a solid season, he did not generate notable interest from NFL scouts, which led TCU's coaching staff to think he would remain with the team.
However, head coach Sonny Dykes sensed a shift in Hoover's attitude as the season concluded, suggesting a transfer was a possibility.
