The Houston Texans have finalized their roster at 53 players as they gear up for their season opener against the Buffalo Bills. This roster decision has clarified certain aspects of the team's structure while introducing new questions regarding its composition.
A notable concern is whether the Texans will add another quarterback to their practice squad. Currently, only C.J. Stroud and Davis Mills are on the active roster, following the release of veteran Brett Rypien. Several experienced quarterbacks, such as Bailey Zappe and Nick Mullins, remain available, which could prompt changes in this position group soon.
The tight end position also presents uncertainty, with five players, including Brevin Jordan, on the roster. Jordan, dealing with a leg injury, may be inactive for Week 1, raising questions about who else might not play on gameday. Additionally, the Texans will navigate the absence of wide receiver Tank Dell and offensive tackle Braden Smith, both placed on injured reserve.
This move will keep them out for at least four games, potentially extending their recovery period within a 21-day practice window. Their health will be crucial as the Texans aim to improve their offensive strategy this season.
