The Houston Texans are anticipating that offensive tackle Braden Smith will be sidelined for a few weeks due to a plantar fascia injury in his foot. This information comes after an injury scare during a joint practice with the Carolina Panthers, as reported by KPRC 2's Aaron Wilson on August 27.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport confirmed that while the injury is a concern, it is not considered severe and should not lead to a long-term absence. The Texans, who signed Smith to a two-year contract worth $20 million in the offseason, were counting on him to fill the starting right tackle role. However, his injury raises questions about the offensive line's stability.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Smith may be out for a few weeks, which is a preferable outcome compared to more serious injuries. The Texans are not in a rush to bring Smith back, as Trent Brown, a former Pro Bowl player, is currently filling the right tackle position. Additionally, Blake Fisher has been progressing well this preseason, providing further options for the team.
Updates on Smith's recovery and the offensive line situation are expected as the season draws nearer.
