Southern Methodist University has appointed Derek Gossler as its new Senior Associate Athletic Director for Revenue Generation. Gossler has over 15 years of expertise in fundraising, ticketing, and commercial strategy. He previously held the position of Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and Chief Revenue Officer at the University of Wyoming, where he significantly boosted cash flow and pledges through the Cowboy Joe Club, achieving unprecedented levels in ticket sales and premium seating.
Before his tenure at Wyoming, Gossler contributed to the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he played a key role in securing record fundraising for five consecutive years. His background also includes impactful work at Arizona State University, where he was involved in raising $86 million during a major fundraising initiative and helped launch the men's hockey program through substantial donor support.
Gossler's diverse experience across various athletic departments equips him to meet SMU's demands as it navigates one of the wealthiest and largest markets in the nation. He plans to enhance revenue through innovative approaches while fostering connections with fans, supporters, and corporate partners. Gossler's hiring reflects SMU's commitment to advancing its athletic programs nationally as the Mustangs join the ACC.
