Houston’s Offensive Struggles Continue
The Houston Astros faced another difficult outing at Petco Park on Monday, ultimately falling 7-2 to the San Diego Padres. Despite entering the contest with momentum, the visiting club found its offense neutralized by a combination of precise pitching and overwhelming power displays from the home side.
Houston’s starting pitcher, Cristian Javier, took the loss after enduring a heavy workload in the early innings. Javier worked five innings but surrendered eight hits and four earned runs. His performance included one walk and two strikeouts before he was forced to leave the game with the deficit growing.
San Diego’s Power Display
The Padres’ offense exploded for seven runs, highlighted by significant home run contributions from several key players. Fernando Tatis Jr. provided a massive boost in the fourth inning with a three-run homer to left field (421 feet), which also saw Rengifo and Fermin cross the plate.
Austin Hays added further momentum in the eighth inning with a two-run shot to left center (361 feet), helping seal the victory.
The Padres’ power display was not limited to Tatis and Hays; Varsho opened the scoring in the second inning with a two-run blast to right center (395 feet), while Merrill added a solo home run to center (411 feet) later in that same frame.
