The Houston Texans have made roster changes after injuries occurred in their preseason opener against the Los Angeles Chargers. Quarterback Graham Mertz has been placed on the Reserve/Injured list due to a knee injury that has been confirmed as season-ending by an MRI. Rookie running back Joshua Pitsenberger also joins the injured reserve following an ankle injury sustained near the end of the game.
Mertz's injury happened just before halftime, compounding the Texans' challenges as they were already managing multiple injuries prior to this game. Pitsenberger's injury further complicates the team's situation as they prepare for the rest of the preseason.
In addition to Mertz and Pitsenberger, the Texans' injury report includes Ja'Marcus Ingram (shoulder), Collin Wright (soft tissue strain), and Jake Hansen (ankle). Despite these setbacks, the Texans have kept most of their starting lineup in place, apart from linebacker E.J. Speed, who had a prior injury during offseason activities.
Head coach DeMeco Ryans and his coaching staff will closely assess their options as they consider further roster adjustments during training camp. Additional roster moves are expected as the team evaluates the implications of these injuries on their upcoming games.
